Blue Eyed Grass

Sisyrinchium bellum

This is the Bornstein plant, as I call it since it’s featured on the cover of California Native Plants for the Garden. Combine this plant with other plants of the same height and water requirement and you’ll have yourself an awesome spring. I have this growing near, but not in, some grey water basins. The best batch I’ve ever seen were in the wall of a swale, but not IN the swale. This let them tap all the moisture from winter and push blooms early in Spring before going dormant for the summer. Always pair this with something that is either growing in Summer or evergreen since having a field of this is beautiful in Spring but disappointing come summer.
