California Hedge Nettle
Stachys bullata
I really like this plant quite a bit— I got it last year right before the tour, and you can see how much it’s grown in. I’m treating this as sort of a “Moist Hummingbird Sage”. I have drip in the areas around the guava tree and so I’m hoping this is similar to a creek side, which is where (hopefully) this species is found, close to, but not in moisture. Since it’s a bit taller it will be able to survive the heavy leafy drop of the guava tree. We’ll see how it fairs in a year or two from now. Beautiful flowers in the shade, seems to flower more aggressively with some sun. May go summer dormant without extra water, but we shall see!
